2011 - 4'x4' Abstract Oil Painting on Oak Plywood.
This painting is the second in a series that reflects my interest and understanding of Cosmology.
At first, the painting seems to be easily understood as a system of motion and symmetry. This is analogous to my first impressions of how the universe worked. Early scientists and observers, also came to these types of conclusions. Once you study it for a while, you begin to notice that the Cosmos is far from harmonious!
In this painting, I try to mirror that experience. Look beyond the harmony and symmetry and you will find a number of questions come to mind. For example, what is the vertical line for? What are the orbs about? Do they represent anything?
It's okay if you enjoy the paintings on my site. It's also okay if you don't like abstract art. Feel free to let me know!
Each painting teaches me many things about my art. That includes how people react and how they interpret the paintings. The next painting is then a natural evolution of the previous painting. As such, it's a fine balance to paint in a way that includes influences from previous works while creating new art at the same time.
This sometimes creates problems for me because I have a hard time creating the same style of painting twice. I much prefer to strike out into new artisitc territory. Otherwise stagnation would ruin me. The more abstract I make a painting, the better. The truly sbstract paintings are those that receive the widest amount of interpretation, feedback and criticism.
